Yin Mingzhu (1904-1989), formerly known as Yin Shangxian, one of China's first generation of female movie stars, was born in Lili in Wujiang in Jiangsu province. Yin Mingzhu played the leader role in China's first love film The Sea Oath. Since then, she has become famous as the first female star in Shanghai. She changed the situation that many actors dress like actresses in the movie. The history of female being the actress has begun. She played in more than 20 silent films with the support from of her husband Duyu, who is a painter.
