Luoya Cottage was originally built in the Yuan Dynasty. There is still an ancient well of the Yuan Dynasty under the southeast corner corridor of the central building. During the Period of Emperor Jiaqing’s reign, Luoya Cottage was rebuilt by Zhou Zhiyuan. Wu Tingchen, Number One Scholar of the seventh year of Emperor Jiaqing’s reign, was asked to inscribe the plaque “Luoya Cottage”, which still exists.
It is worth mentioning that there are 12 wooden drum pier foundations supporting the stakes on the ground. Although these wooden foundations have a history of five to six hundred years, they are still intact, which is a miracle in the regions of rivers and lakes south of the Yangtze River with humid atmosphere.
